Year of Song #2: “Paris”
Disclaimer: This song is part of a songwriting project called Year of Song, in which I release one new song for free each week. To get first dibs on the songs as they come out, sign up for my mailing list at andrewplan.com and subscribe to the podcast at andrewplan.libsyn.com. Thanks for listening!
Note: this is a posting of the second week of Year of Song; I hadn’t done a blog for it, so here it is :P
i’d rather not say much about this song…i really like how it turned out, but the lyrics are very close to my heart. one of those unintentionally autobiographical songs, you could say.
the tower was falling, as we drew near, flares up like christmas, like all we held dear. sleeping in train cars, you tell me we’re fine, fingers locked till the end of the line
hear me out, i’ve lost too much, wait to find me, you think I’ll come around.
assumptions unravel, you ask what I fear; the doubts i raise are all too clear
we’ll always have paris, year after year. as strange as it seems, i walk without fear. and I, tried to steady my heart, but I already know
I will stray
streetlife went missing, late last night. your eyes were empty, drained from the fight. there’s no use pretending, with your head on my chest. the rise and fall mean nothing at all
we’ll always have paris, year after year. as strange as it seems, i walk without fear. and I, tried to steady my heart, but you already know—
Something starts to rise in the background of my mind. Brittle voices, of a pain that won’t ease with time. And I know it’s no excuse, for how I made you hurt, I tried, but I can’t make a home from all these broken parts
I won’t stay.
