Year of Song #9: Porcelain
hey all! my apologies for the lateness of the post; I’m hard at work on a paid song commission for a startup company coming out of Stanford. It’s like I have an actual job for once!
But anyways, this week’s song. I wrote part of this song about two years back, when my grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s. Witnessing someone I loved slowly succumb to Alzheimer’s is one of the most heartwrenching experiences I’ve had; when he started forgetting who I was — heck, who he was — it was like watching his soul become increasingly trapped, to the point he couldn’t express himself anymore. There was just a shell where the person was.
Recommended listening experience: headphones. or sitting somewhere quiet with the speakers at a reasonable level.
Alright, back to that song commission. Take care!

Here lies a woman, a porcelain doll, biding her time for the call
she lives for a moment she’ll never outrun, her porcelain mind, slowly braced for the fall
Soon, lights will fall, porcelain will break from love
She lives for a moment she’ll never outrun, but as long as you run, love you’ll always belong
you stare through the eyes of a lady in glass, she can’t help but move like you do
and all that remains is the echo from your name, you may never recall, you were ever here at all
Now, lights will fall, porcelain will break from love
and I know, you had to go, but i can’t bring myself to say goodbye
Love will find its way
Love will find its way
Here I am waiting, a porcelain doll, at peace with the world I could lose
I live for the moments I cannot outrun, but as long as I run, love you’ll always belong
Now, lights will fall, porcelain will break from love
and I know, i always knew, you could never find the freedom to feel alive
love will find its way
love will find its way
porcelain, you’ll find your way
our love will find its way
